Just testing to see how unfit I really am, slightly.  I did a 6 mile run on the treadmill.  2 warm-up at 7 pace, 3 at 6:15 pace, and then one mile cool down at 7 pace.  Felt good, relaxed.  No serious stress.  Overall, not as bad as I thought, but obviously not where I want to be either!

Treadmill Workout:

2 mile warm-up at 7 pace

2 x 800 meters @ 2:50-equal rest

4 x 800 meters @ 2:40-equal rest

1 mile cool down

This was a good solid effort considering its my first speed workout in about a year.  It felt relaxed and did not feel I was ever in oxygen debt.  Since the Newport Marathon is only 5 months away, I'm having to somewhat build my base as I go.  This was a perfect base workout, not too much, but just enough to open the lungs.  I'm very pleased with this effort.

I ran up to the lookout up Makiki St.  It's quite a climb.  It climbs probably about 1500 feet, all up hill.  Then you decend the same monster.  The down hill was very fast.  My upper left foot is a little tender.  Don't know if it's the shoes or the workout.  Probably the workout.  Gotta take it easy the next few days.  Got tomorrow to rest and then Monday will be easy.

It felt good to get a good night sleep!  I woke up at 6:45 and took off by 7:00.  Just ran easy on the road.  Went down to UH, Dole, and then Waialae and back.  Pace fet easy.  My quads are still a little sore from the Saturday's workout.  The upper left foot felt good.  Courtney left for Utah this morning.  I already miss her and the little guy.  It's just me and Lucy this week.  It may be challenging to get in my workouts.  I have a babysitter lined up for tomorrow evening.

Welcome. There aren't too many Hawaii runners on here. I live on Kauai. If you ever come to Kauai we can go for a run.

Thanks for the welcome message. It's good to be inolved in something like this. I hope I'm doing this message correctly. I've never been to Kauai yet, maybe someday soon. If I am ever out that way, we should definitely go run. If you are ever out this way, it would be great to run out here as well.

The babysitters followed through and did a fabulous job!  I was so greatful that they could watch Lucy.  Even more, Marty insisted that she watch Lucy longer so  I could go to a  church meeting without having to worry about Lucy being there.  I was so blessed today!

The workout was great as well.  1.5 mile warm up and cool down, 6 x 800 meters ( jog equal rest) on the road.  There was a strong wind for half of them, but a nice tail wind for the other half.  The splits were: 2:35 (tailwind), 2:39 (headwind), 2:34 (tailwind), 2:44 (headwind), 2:35 (tailwind), 2:43 (headwind).  It averages out to under 5:20 pace, so I'm very happy overall.

Ran in my regular trainers.  No racers yet.  I'm sure it would've felt much better in racers.  Don't want to rush that though.  I probably won't use racers until just before the Great Aloha Run!

The workout was at the Ala Wai stretch.  Nice spot.  Beautiful!  Towards the end, I had to focus a lot but my foot felt great.  I haven't felt any pain or discomfort afterwords either.  We'll see how it feels tomorrow.  Gonna take it easy, probably for the rest of the week.  Stroller running, mostly because I've got Lucy and don't want to inconvenience another baby sitter.  It's probably good that I rest more anyways.  It's still early!

Welcome to the blog!

Does Lucy like being pushed in her stroller while you run? My daughter, Melanie, is about a year younger than Ms. Lucy, and LOVES to be pushed.

I'm fairly new to the blog also but I think you posted correctly. Are you originally from Hawaii? I was just wondering because you said you haven't been to Kauai. You've heard of the Kalalau trail on the Na pali here on Kauai? It is 11 miles to the end, and 11 back out. I ran it last year (hardest run I've ever done). If you ever want to run that let me know, I did it alone last time which probably wasn't safe. You're lucky on Oahu there are so many races...there are only 3 on Kauai per year.

Todays run was quite fun.  Six easy miles, about 7 pace with the stroller.  Lucy kept yelling, "faster, faster", so some of it was even faster than 7 pace.  Running with the stroller worked me more than I thought it would.  It felt different running with a stroller because obviously could move my arms as much.  I felt no pain in my foot.  No problems.
